Santa Paula’s average annual rainfall of 18.41 inches has been a thing of the past this rainy season; and although February is usually considered the wettest month with an average rainfall of 4.65 inches, the fierce Sunday storm alone outdid it by far.

In fact, Santa Paula area residents have already seen 7.4 inches of rain in March alone.

And so far this rainy season - which generally is considered to start in October - there has been 29.27 inches of rainfall recorded in the Santa Paula area. There’s more to come: the first in a trio of storms expected in Ventura County dampened Santa Paula and other areas Wednesday, but rain totals through the end of the week are not expected to be anywhere near the weekend’s deluge, according to the National Weather Service.

Scattered afternoon and evening showers are expected through Saturday.

Although there were occasional light showers Wednesday, the storm moved out of the area leaving sunny but cloudy skies.

But it might be a different story later Thursday, when another front is projected to bring 0.50 inch to 2.5 inches of rain to the foothills and mountains. Saturday afternoon might bring the third and mildest rain event, although if it comes - and there’s only a 30 percent chance of showers - it might linger into Sunday morning.

Following the latest series of storms, county residents can expect drier and warmer air temperatures.
