Necessary procedures followed toward the founding of the public library. In 1908, a lot was purchased for $4,000 at the corner of Main and 8th Streets, and construction of the building began shortly thereafter, culminating in the library’s formal opening in March 1910. The library’s first librarian was Miss Mary J. Birdsall. The style of the building itself was Greek Ionic, it covered an area of 1916 square feet, and it could hold approximately 10,000 volumes.
Over its 100 years of history, Blanchard Community Library has consistently offered the community of Santa Paula its much appreciated and enjoyed library services. Though the original building is now gone and the library has relocated to its present location on 8th Street, it continues in its tradition of excellent service to the community. Graciously serving its many patrons are its courteous, pleasant and efficient staff, and its admired, well respected, and always helpful librarian of over 40 years, Dan Robles.
