Lady Cards play in first CIF playoff game in 8 years
The Lady Cardinal basketball team had their first CIF playoff game in eight years last week, as they hosted Mission Prep.
The Cardinal girls played hard throughout the game, but ultimately lost 61-34. “The Cards came a long way this year, battling each and every night, never giving up,” said first-year Head Coach Mark Blankenship. “The girls enjoyed a good season, finishing second in the Frontier League and making it to CIF. All the hard work paid off!” He added a thank you to the parents and the fans and said the team looks forward to a successful season next year, as well as another trip to CIF.
The Mission Prep Royals defense forced Santa Paula into double-digit turnovers in the first quarter, setting the tone for the contest. Felicia Magaña led the way for the Lady Cards with 12 points. She was followed by Elissa Rico with 8 points and four rebounds. Yesenia Mancilla had 7 points, nine rebounds, five steals and two blocks.
