The Cardinal JV was overwhelmed by the Nordhoff Rangers Friday, 27-6.

Nordhoff fumbled the bar on the first kickoff of the contest and the Cardinals recovered it.  Moments later the Rangers got the ball back off a Santa Paula fumble.  A few minutes later the Cards intercepted a pass and the Rangers did likewise to Santa Paula a couple of minutes later.  This led to the First Nordhoff touchdown.  The remainder of the first quarter the ball was in Cardinal hands, but they could not get into the Ranger’s end zone.

It looked like neither team was going to score in the second quarter until the Rangers went in for a TD with 1:39 left on the clock for the first half.  The half ended with Santa Paula in possession of the ball.

The Cards got the kick off to start the second half and, despite some yardage gains, especially by Daniel Kohr, only Nordhoff got more points on the scoreboard.

About midway through the fourth quarter, the Rangers scored their final TD.  Santa Paula got their lone touchdown with just 40 seconds left to play on a 50-yard run by Kohr.  He recorded some 76 rushing yards for the game, leading Santa Paula.

The JV Cards are to play Santa Clara High School this week. With no lights at Jones Field, the game was reset for Saturday, time has not been set.  Check Friday’s Santa Paula Times for starting time.
