Art lovers and fans of acclaimed artist Judy Klement are in for a treat with the “6th Annual Art Exhibit & Sale” featuring the superb work of award-winning professional, advanced and budding artists - as well as Klement’s own award-winning art - created by her students of the Ventura Adult Continuing Education Art programs.

The unusual exhibit is now on display at Blanchard Community Library (119 N. 8th St.) and runs through October 28.

A show of this reputation requires two special receptions, with the Saturday, September 25 event featuring the awards ceremony. The free reception will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., with the awards ceremony at noon. The second free reception will be held October 23, also from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

At the receptions art lovers will meet the artists and view the more than 50 varied paintings in this sixth annual art event. There is also the chance to purchase a fine creation by Klement or her students. An East Coast native, Klement considers California a perfect setting for her for her home and studio.

Klement, whose own works are best described as impressionistic realism, believes that the Ventura Adult Continuing Education art class program “promotes art as well as benefits the individuals and beautifies the community.” Klement, who considers herself a late-blooming artist, has been doing both through her own varied art - she’s a master of numerous subjects and medias ranging from pastel to portraiture to pen and ink and flowers, murals and landscapes to architecture and animals and almost everything in between - and her students, whose works are often publicly exhibited throughout Ventura County.

Klement and her husband Walt sponsor these annual exhibits themselves to showcase the fascinating work accomplished by these artists. Klement not only teaches through Ventura Adult Continuing Education Art programs on site at several locations, but also accepts students at her studio in Santa Paula.

Her acclaimed pastel work will be exhibited in the “Fall Festival” Pastel Art Show to be held at Ojai’s West Hills Gallery (1545 Cuyama Road) November 6th and 7th (call the gallery 646-6907 for more information).

Ventura Adult Continuing Education Art programs taught by Klement - who has won various prizes and whose works are included in numerous collections - and are offered at a nominal fee. VACE Art classes are held Wednesday, 9 a.m. to noon at Ventura Marina Mobile Home Park, Anchor Way, and Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. at Moran Manor, 1690 E. Main Street, Ventura.

All mediums and subjects are taught. Klement also has private workshops in pastel and portraiture and invites members to exhibit. For more information call 525-3411.

A percentage of sales from the “6th Annual Art Exhibit & Sale” will benefit the Santa Paula Society of the Arts.

Blanchard Community Library is open Monday, Tuesday and Thursday noon to 8 p.m., Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The library is closed Friday, Sunday and holidays.
