More than $10,000 in scholarships will be offered to Ventura County students at the third annual Youth Empowerment Summit on Friday, April 23.

The event, hosted by the United Way’s Young Leaders Society of Ventura County, will provide college-bound students with career and life mentoring to enhance their knowledge about college and prepare them for the workforce. Students who meet certain criteria are eligible to participate at the Summit and receive an opportunity to be awarded scholarships to help further their educational goals.

The event will be held in the Cafeteria on the Ventura College campus (4667 Telegraph Road, Ventura, CA 93003) from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Among the highlights of the Youth Empowerment Summit will be an address from former NFL player Chris Thomas. The event will feature seminars on a variety of career fields including the Media, Financial Industry, Non-profit, Politics, Medicine and Entrepreneurialism. In addition, the program will present workshops on How to Build a Powerful Resume and College Financing 101.

“We are very proud and honored to have Chris Thomas speak at our third annual Youth Empowerment Summit,” said YLS Board Member Chris Kunke, an attorney with Nordman Cormany Hair & Compton. “He provides a compelling homegrown success story and is an outstanding example of how preparation, hard work and determination can lead to extraordinary achievement.”
