Students from the Santa Paula High School Agriculture Science Academy attended the World Agriculture Expo on Wednesday, February 11th. The trip provided students with the opportunities to experience agriculture from around the world. Mr. Flores explained, “many of the activities the program offers students allow them to learn about real-life agriculture since the program continues to lack in modern instructional facilities. We conduct many related activities, college tours, competitions, & field trips in order to connect agriculture to students.” Though funding will continue to play a role on how education fund programs such as the Academies & AVID, we will need to provide a more specialized type of program to engage students in learning and promoting higher education and career preparation. The World Agriculture Expo also included a large agricultural college fair which students were able to learn about the many educational opportunities at the community & university levels throughout California and the United States.

More than 1,000 international visitors from 67 countries made the trek to World Ag Expo, a global agricultural trade show. “People from all over the world attend World Ag Expo each year because they know this is where the industry meets in North America,” said Bernie Cargle, 2010 World Ag Expo Chairman. While the show draws tens of thousands from the U.S., its international exhibitor presence will be impressive in 2010. Already more than half of the anticipated international visitors have pre-registered to attend World Ag Expo. International visitors are coming from countries from as far away as China & Australia.

The World Ag Expo, is the largest agricultural exposition of its kind, and it celebrated its 43rd year on Feb. 9-11 in Tulare, Calif. following its 2010 theme, “Powering Global Agriculture”. Attendees will get a look at new technology to improve worldwide agriculture. Additionally, World Ag Expo will give attendees the chance to meet industry leaders and attend seminars to help them excel in the global marketplace. This year, World Ag Expo’s international seminars are organized by the Fresno Center for International Trade Development. They include seminars such as Green, Fair and Safe: Producing for the Global Supply Chain and Are Global Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures Distorting International Trade.

While at World Ag Expo, international buyers can connect with U.S. companies at its International Business Center. There, international attendees register as international buyers, get matched with U.S. companies for joint venture opportunities, export agreements and international distribution.
