The Mill, the most historic store in Ventura County, will be filled with plants for the day, said Helen Hengehold.Located on the corner of Mill Street and Railroad Avenue, a short stroll from Main Street, The Mill’s special plant sale will be held amid the thousands of unusual items carried at the store, which also includes a Santa Paula Society of the Arts gallery.Santa Paula is home to spectacular gardens, and The Mill will offer a wide array of plants. “Oh, we’ll have roses, fruit trees, annuals, perennials, all sorts of plants,” said Helen Hengehold.“Why do people love plants? They make them happy,” said Polly Hengehold. “. . .people like to dig in the dirt and then watch them grow.”The Mill has been the site of plant mega-sales in the past, said Helen Hengehold, but “we hadn’t done so in a few years so we thought we’d help Santa Paula further beautify itself!”Be sure to mark your calendar: Saturday, March 3rd, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the Santa Paula Merchants Association Sidewalk Sale, where a good bargain won’t go unmissed, unless you miss this great shopping event!

Who doesn’t like shopping, that feeling when you get a bargain or see something you passed up before but now it’s marked down at a sale price?
By Peggy KellySanta Paula TimesWho doesn’t like shopping, that feeling when you get a bargain or see something you passed up before but now it’s marked down at a sale price?Everybody loves to shop, and the Santa Paula Merchants Association is sponsoring a giant Sidewalk Sale on Saturday, March 3rd from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m, on historic Main Street in the Downtown Business District, as well as shops located near the thoroughfare.“It’s going to be a good, old-fashioned sidewalk sale like we had for so many years, and haven’t had in a while,” said Santa Paula Merchants Association President Debbie Johnson. “We’re looking forward to all the businesses participating in the sale and the residents supporting it.”Main Street will remain open to traffic and there’s plenty of parking, “lots of parking,” Johnson said. “Many of the merchants are going to have specials for the Sidewalk Sale,” and each retailer will be visited prior to the sale to encourage participation and given a bilingual flier on the event.But once the merchants have done their part, “People need to come down and reacquaint themselves with downtown Santa Paula and everything that it is, and what it has to offer. . .we’re planning that the March 3rd Sidewalk Sale will be the just the first of a series of such events,” Johnson noted, “and, I’m really looking forward to it; it’s exciting.”Main and surrounding streets have plenty to offer: restaurants, video store, galleries, antique palaces, books, collectibles, clothing, hardware, decorative garden items, bakery, speciality foods, five & dime, jewelry, specialized coffee shop-shopping emporium, thrift stores. . .well, there’s very little that Main Street doesn’t offer sharp shoppers.
