SP man, two Ventura residents arrested for wedding reception brawl

A Santa Paula man was among three people arrested when a brawl at a Saturday night wedding reception left the mother of the groom with a knife wound to her face and resulted in minor injuries to several officers, according to a Ventura Police Department spokesman.

The fight, which involved 100 to 150 people, was reported shortly before 11 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall, located at 36 Fir Street in Ventura.When Ventura officers arrived on scene several people were still fighting, and it took about 15 officers to disperse what was described by police as an intoxicated crowd of guests.Delphina Hernandez, 52, mother of the groom, suffered a knife cut to her face. Ambulance paramedics treated Hernandez at the scene before she was transported to Ventura County Medical Center. Hernandez was treated for the knife wound and released.
Joe Martinez, 34 of Santa Paula, Max Ledesma, 18, and Jonathan Sanchez, 19, both of Ventura, were arrested on suspicion of fighting in public and resisting arrest. The three were taken to Ventura County Jail.Sanchez was being held Sunday evening on $25,000 bail. No bail information was available for Ledesma, and Martinez had been released. Ventura Police also cited a juvenile at the scene who was later released.Several Ventura Police officers suffered minor scratches and bruises in the melee, which is still being investigated.
