Santa Paula will show its support for those serving in the military when it unveils the first Armed Forces Banners Monday, April 7.

By Peggy KellySanta Paula TimesSanta Paula will show its support for those serving in the military when it unveils the first Armed Forces Banners Monday, April 7.The 11 a.m. ceremony outside the Santa Paula Police Station will feature remarks by Mayor Bob Gonzales, who proposed the program enthusiastically embraced by the City Council earlier this year.Since then the city has actively sought those who would like their loved ones honored with a banner as well as sponsors to cover the $120 cost for each.
The two-foot by five-foot banners will be displayed in pairs from existing utility standards along 10th Street.City Manager Wally Bobkiewicz said that the response to the program has been “very good and once they’re up,” he expects more people will want to participate and “we’ll take orders for the next batch probably next summer.”Having the Armed Forces Banners is yet another feather in Santa Paula’s cap: “We’re the first community in Ventura County to do this and the City Council is real proud of that,” Bobkiewicz noted.
