Self-defense class for women

The Santa Paula Police Department recently offered a specialized hands-on self defense class designed specifically for women. Twenty women attended the class with Range Master SPPD Officer Dave Manning instructing the course and Officer Hector Ramirez and Officer Paul Spencer assisting. The class taught crime prevention tips and techniques in self-protection. Topics covered included “Color Codes of Awareness,” “Layers of Response,” weapons that can be legally carried, how to hit and where, mental alertness and preparation, situation awareness, and danger avoidance. Above, one technique that was used was a heavily padded “Red Man” suit.
