The Cardinal varsity had a good first quarter, behind by just 1 point at the buzzer. The Lions outscored the Cards 23-9 in the second quarter. They came back to edge the Lions 13-12 in the third but again fell off in the final quarter. Oaks Christian won 64-42.Daniel Pachuca and Ben Kolbeck each had 8 points for Santa Paula. Daniel Kolbeck hit the hoop for 7 points. Daniel fouled out in the fourth quarter.One official apparently thought this was an NBA contest, calling repeated fouls against Santa Paula. He threw a Santa Paula assistant coach from the game after calling double technical fouls against him. The assistant made a comment after a foul was called against a Santa Paula player. The ref reportedly dared him to say something else and then called the second technical before he could open his mouth. Another long-time official watching from the stands, made the comment that the ref on the floor was over-zealous in his calls.

The Oaks Christian boys’ basketball teams didn’t have an easy time of it, even though they won their games against Santa Paula Friday.
The Cardinal frosh boys got off to a slow start with the Lions taking a 29-13 lead at the half. Santa Paula actually outscored Oaks Christian 30-25 in the second half, but lost the contest 54-43.Antonio Rios led the Cards in scoring with 13 points. Cesar Correa followed with 12. Joe Cardenas, Juan Martinez and Martin Ruiz each had 4 points.The JV boys also put up a good fight, losing to the Lions 66-45.Oaks Christian had a 31-20 lead at the half, and the Cards played hard, but couldn’t make up for the deficit.T.J. Binsley had 13 points for Santa Paula. Mathew Medina and Gilbert Mora each added 8 points.
