The SPPD has posted 11 quality of life enforcement priorities

The Santa Paula Police Department now has 11 quality of life priorities that have been posted in the station, SPPD Chief Steve MacKinnon told the City Council at the Aug. 7 meeting.

By Peggy KellySanta Paula TimesThe Santa Paula Police Department now has 11 quality of life priorities that have been posted in the station, SPPD Chief Steve MacKinnon told the City Council at the Aug. 7 meeting.“What you have before you is a miniature version” of the poster SPPD Officers are faced with on a daily basis said Chief MacKinnon, who noted that he is working closely with the Watch Commanders on “a number of quality of life issues.”Headed “City of Santa Paula Priorities” the poster notes that City Manager Wally Bobkiewicz identified 18 top issues for the city to work on through the end of the year; the third highest priority was quality of life issues.Officers are urged to step up foot patrols - one each morning, afternoon and evening as caseloads permit - and to interact with business owners and citizens.Enforcement of the ban on skateboards and bicycles on the sidewalks can include seizures as required as can not adhering to Skatepark Rules.
Veterans Park is being monitored more closely for alcohol, drugs and gambling as well as related violations.Loud motorcycles, loud stereos, noisy parties and alcohol violations will not be tolerated.SPPD Officers are also on the lookout for abandoned vehicles and parking enforcement in neighborhoods - RVs, campers, and trailers left beyond the time limit - and right of way obstructions such as basketball poles.Parking enforcement in the Central Business District will include regularly sweeps and Bike Patrols will be conducted downtown and in other appropriate neighborhood areas.“Community Policing expects us to address the problems our community has identified,” notes the poster. “While responding and investigating major incidents remains a Very High Priority, Quality of Life issues continue to impact all citizens and we must address those areas as well,” notes the poster.The poster is “Just something to reinforce,” attention on quality of life issues noted Chief MacKinnon. “This is a very visual reminder to pursue that and adopt some of those ideas,” while Officers are out on patrol. “It’s another tool in their toolbox...I just wanted the Council to know about this ongoing effort.”
