Archaeology society set to invade Ventura

If you have ever dreamed of digging for artifacts or interpreting prehistoric village sites, then you won’t want to miss the 40th Annual Meeting of the Society for California Archaeology, scheduled for March 29 through April 1 at the Ventura Beach Marriott.

If you have ever dreamed of digging for artifacts or interpreting prehistoric village sites, then you won’t want to miss the 40th Annual Meeting of the Society for California Archaeology, scheduled for March 29 through April 1 at the Ventura Beach Marriott.Over the four days, not only will there be a Geoarchaeology Workshop (the reconstruction of ancient environments and landscapes), but presentations dealing with such topics as “Understanding Artifacts”, “Archaeology of the Channel Islands” and “California Desert and Great Basin Prehistory”. Also scheduled is a guided island excursion to Santa Cruz Island, which includes briefings and interpretive expertise, provided by the National Parks staff. All of this, along with a Thursday night Reception/Silent Auction at the Ventura County Museum of History & Art and a delectable Friday night Awards Banquet featuring guest speaker Douglas Owsley, head of the Physical Anthropology Program at the Smithsonian, Museum of Natural History.Once again the annual meeting will feature its “Book Room”, where participants can purchase not only Archaeology, History and Art books, but fine jewelry and pottery.
You can enjoy the daily sessions for as little as $40 per day, or better yet, join the Society and receive all the special discounts. Workshops and evening events have separate prices.
