Santa Paulans will have a chance to hear the six candidates for the Ventura County 3rd District Supervisor at a Forum tomorrow night in Fillmore.

The League of Women Voters Ventura County has scheduled the May 12 Forum from 7 to 9 p.m. at Fillmore City Hall Council Chambers, 250 Central Ave.

Admission is free to the Forum, which will allow residents of Santa Paula, Fillmore and Piru to hear from the candidates.

David Maron, familiar to Santa Paulans for his regular moderating duties for League of Women Voters’ forums will oversee the event asking questions of the candidates submitted by the audience.

Candidates will also introduce themselves and make closing statements.

The highly contested race to replace retiring District 3 Supervisor Kathy Long — who has served five terms but declined to run for a sixth and final term under term limit\ guidelines — has drawn the unusually high number of contenders for the seat that represents Camarillo, Port Hueneme, Southeast Oxnard, East Oxnard Plain, Santa Paula, Fillmore, Piru, East Lockwood Valley, and Eastern Portion of Naval Base Ventura County.

Since it is unlikely that any one candidate will garner the 50 percent plus one vote needed to take the seat in the June 7 Primary Election, voters will determine the two top candidates to face off in the November Presidential Election.

It’s a pretty lopsided field of candidates with all but one living in Camarillo. The Camarillo-based candidates are Carla Castilla, district director for state Sen. Hannah-Beth Jackson; Dan Goldberg, businessman; Kevin Kildee, business owner and Camarillo City Council member; Kelly Long, trustee on the board of the Pleasant Valley School District; Mike Morgan, mayor of Camarillo; and Jesus Torres, businessman. The only candidate living outside Camarillo is Martin Hernandez, mayor of Santa Paula and Long’s chief of staff.

The candidates have already appeared at two forums held in Camarillo.

The Forum is a public service of the non-profit, non-partisan League of Women Voters. Questions about the forum may be sent to Lwv@LwvVenturaCounty.org

The forum will be also be available at www.kadytv.net
