Angie Ellen Birky
Angie Ellen Birky of Santa Paula, California, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2016 in Powell, Wyoming. She was 99.
Angie was born to Nellie (Brown) and Charlie L. Olinger on Jan. 14, 1917, in Bogota, Illinois.
She grew up in Illinois and graduated from a one room country school house. Angie first met John Birky at a Caterpillar tractor plant in Peoria, Illinois, that had been converted to manufacture tanks for the war. In June of 1944, Angie married John Q. Birky in Olney, Illinois.
The couple moved to California where Charles (Chuck) was born in 1945. Three years later, in 1948, they welcomed their second son Michael. The family moved to Santa Paula in 1957. Angie worked as a real estate broker and was a member of the Santa Paula- Fillmore Board of Realtors, and even served as one of their first female presidents. She attended the Life Way Baptist Church in Santa Paula. Angie loved living and working in Santa Paula, but it was the people and the community whom she adored the most.
Angie was preceded in death by her beloved husbands John, William Woods, and Benjamin Sparling; mother Nellie; father Charlie; brother Charles, and grandson Michael.
She is survived by her little sister Violet Van Osdol (95);son Charles O. Birky and daughter-in-law Laura L. Birky; son Michael A. Birky and daughter-in-law Monica Birky;step-daughter Joanne Henderson of Illinois; grandsons John C. Birky, C. Sean (Julie) Birky, Christian S. Birky and Quin Birky; and granddaughter Caitlin Marie Birky; eight great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

A Graveside service will be held in Santa Paula, Calif. on Thursday, March 24, 2016 at 11:00 a.m.
