A Santa Paula man was violently attacked Friday evening outside an East Main Street restaurant and although severely wounded his injuries are not life threatening.

According to a Santa Paula Police spokesman, the suspect in the stabbing is still at large.

Sgt. Cody Madison said the incident occurred September 25 at about 10:14 p.m. when SPPD Officers “received a call of a person bleeding from the hand,” in front of an eatery on the 900 block of East Main Street.

Prior to officers being dispatched a SPPD Officer “who was in the area,” was flagged down by a witness who told of the altercation.

Madison said the investigation revealed that the unidentified victim had been in an argument with the suspect and a fight ensued.

During the fight the suspect pulled a knife and stabbed the victim at least twice injuring his right forearm and left torso area.

“The suspect fled the area running west on Main Street and then north on Mill Street,” before witnesses lost sight of him.

A search of the area was conducted by officers for the suspect — described as a Hispanic male, mid-20s, black hair and wearing a grey shirt — but he was not located.

Officers also went to the Railroad Plaza Park to search for the suspect.

Santa Paula Fire EMTs and ambulance personnel treated the victim on scene before he was transported to Ventura County Medical Center’s Trauma Unit.

“At this time the victim’s injuries appear severe however,” said Madison, “they are not life threatening. The investigation is on-going at this time.”
