The Second Annual “Kids Day at the Club” was held Friday at the Boys and Girls Club in Santa Paula.

The event was open to kids from the Boys and Girls Club of the Santa Clara Valley and some 300 gathered at the Harvard Boulevard Club. Following lunch, provided by the Fillmore Fire Foundation, the young people had a large variety of activities, ranging from Science, Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) and robotics to art and entomology.

Jan Margolin, Chief Executive Officer of the Club said Kids Day comes from an event she used to do when she was an elementary school principal, called Family Science Night. “What I’ve done is to reinvent it for our Boys and Girls Club,” she added. She said they don’t have a lot of funds for field trips, so she asked area museums and other agencies to come to the club. She noted, “They all have a hands-on project, most having to do with 0 STEM education. People want to get involved. They’re excited about being here.”

Participants and sponsors included Fillmore Fire Foundation, Fillmore Rotary, Santa Paula Firefighters Association, Ventura County Sheriff’s Posse, Agricultural Museum, Associates Insectary, California Oil Museum, Channel Islands National Park, City Impact, Crimson Pipeline, L.P., Food Share, Santa Paula Art Museum, Santa Paula Fitness, Santa Paula Optimists, Students for Eco Education and Agriculture, Starting New at Golf (SNAG) Elkins Ranch Golf Course, Santa Paula Animal Rescue Center and UC Hansen Agricultural Research and Extension Center.
