Six people including a local woman were injured and Santa Paula Fire personnel called for mutual aid to a two-vehicle crash that occurred Thursday in Fillmore.

According to the Ventura County’s Sheriff’s Office the April 9 crash occurred about 4:40 p.m. at Highway 126 and Santa Clara Street.

The VCSO reported that the collision occurred when one vehicle, driven by John Toy, 65, of Fillmore, attempted to turn left from southbound Santa Clara Street to eastbound Highway 126.

A vehicle driven westbound on Highway 126 by Michelle Artran, 36, of Oxnard, hit Toy’s car.

Toy was injured as a result of the collision and transported to Ventura County Medical Center hospital for treatment. Artran and her four passengers —Nahun Orizabal of Oxnard, Margaret Brown of Ventura, Lissette Ochoa of Oxnard and Yvonne Bucio, a resident of Santa Paula — were also injured and trapped in the vehicle for a short time before emergency responders extricated them. Officials did not release the ages of Artran’s passengers.

Artran and two of her passengers were also transported to Ventura County Medical Center for treatment, while the other passengers were treated at the scene and released. Two of those transported to the hospital suffered moderate injuries and two sustained minor injuries in the crash.

“The collision,” according to the VCSO, “caused significant traffic delays in the area for about two hours,” for the initial investigation and then to clear the area.

The investigation into the cause of the collision is being conducted by the Fillmore Police Department.

Emergency personnel with the Fillmore Police Department, Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, Fillmore Fire Department, Santa Paula Fire Department, American Medical Response and Gold Coast Ambulance responded to the incident.
