Large numbers of buyers attend Junior Livestock Auction at Fair

The Junior Livestock Auction was held last Friday at the Ventura County Fair, with 4-H and FFA members selling their animals to waiting buyers. The arena was full of buyers and spotters watched for that hand to go up indicating a willingness to purchase an animal.
Chase Bowen’s pig that had taken top prize of Grand Champion sold for $16 a pound, with the buyer paying $4,288 for the pig. Aaron Largen’s steer sold for $10 a pound, bringing in $13,660 for the Grand Champion.Buyers attended all day long, with the auction starting early in the morning and extending into late afternoon when the last animal, a pig owned by Robert Dyer of Santa Paula, was sold. In all 425 animals were sold including 113 lambs, 207 pigs, dozens of goats and steers, turkeys, chickens, even rabbits.
