By Peggy KellySanta Paula TimesA Santa Paula man was arrested for suspicion of hit and run and driving under the influence in one of two such incidents that occurred early Saturday morning. The first incident occurred at about 2:28 a.m., according to Santa Paula Police Department Lieutenant Mike Saviers, with the report of a hit and run in the 200 block of Santa Paula Street near Olive Street. Officers responded to the scene, where they found a parked 1958 GMC pickup with moderate left side damage to the vehicle. The driver of a 2007 Toyota Avalon, 29-year-old Anthony Pineda, was located in the 300 block of East Main Street. Pineda’s vehicle had major damage to the right side, and SPPD officers determined that he had struck the pickup before fleeing.
“He was subsequently investigated for driving under the influence and was arrested for same, as well as for misdemeanor hit and run,” said Saviers. Pineda’s vehicle was towed from the scene and impounded. Also on May 10 at about 3:56 a.m., officers responded to a hit and run reported in the 200 block of Dean Drive. “A 1996 green Nissan Sentra was hit by an unknown vehicle” that Saviers said then left the scene of the collision.According to an area resident, the impact pushed the car back 30 feet. “It had to been something big” because the Nissan - which also received a broken axle in the crash - appears to be totaled.“I would imagine the driver of the other vehicle must have had major damage,” the area resident added. The investigation is continuing.
