Window smashed at historic El Brillante Market in beer theft

The historic El Brillante Market on East Main Street was broken into on September 23 when the suspect climbed through the smashed front window to steal beer, according to a Santa Paula Police spokesman.

Mike Saviers said that the incident occurred at “one minute after midnight” when the SPPD was notified by a private security company that advised that a burglary alarm had been activated at the market, located at 1016 E. Main St.“The first Officer who got there reported that that the window had been smashed with some kind of object and there appeared to have been a burglary,” said Lt. Saviers.
Upon further investigation it “appeared that the only thing taken was about three cases of beer...”Responding SPPD Officers found that the window of an adjoining business, Gallery 1020, located at 1020 E. Main St., was also damaged.Lt. Saviers that it did not appear the gallery window was broken as the part of a burglary, but rather is considered “a vandalism only...”There were no suspects in the area when SPPD Officers arrived on scene; the investigation is continuing.
