“The Officers took the market owner to the burned register and he positively identified it,” as the one belonging to his business said Lt. Saviers.It is not confirmed if “there was still money in the cash register at the time of the burglary and we’re not aware of other items that were taken.”Overall, the incident is “kind of a strange thing,” Lt. Saviers noted.The investigation is continuing.

An incident described as being on the strange side occurred early Sunday morning when a Santa Paula Police Officer discovered a stolen cash register burning in a parking lot, according to a SPPD spokesman.

Lt. Mike Saviers said the incident occurred July 8 at about 1:35 a.m.SPPD Officer Jeremy Watson was on patrol in the area of 12th and Orchard streets when he “saw a small fire in the parking lot...when he approached it” he realized that it was a cash register that was consumed by flames.After the fire was extinguished, Officer Watson started “checking out businesses in the general area but didn’t find anything damaged or broken into. Then, at about 2 a.m., the owner of Danny’s Meat Market” located at 974 E. Main St. reported that “a window to his business had been broken and there were things missing” from the store said Lt. Saviers.Officers responded to Danny’s Meat Market, searched the premises and determined that the cash register was missing.
