National non-profit appoints Bertha Garcia to board of directors

The Cabrillo Economic Development Corporation (CEDC) is proud to announce the appointment of Bertha M. Garcia to the board of directors of the Neighborhood Housing Services of America (NHSA), a national nonprofit lender based in Oakland, California, that focuses on revitalizing neighborhoods and strengthening communities across America. Ms. Garcia has been on staaff at Ventura-based CEDC for 19 years and currently also serves as the Executive Director of the Ventura County Community Development Corporation (VCCDC) and Director of CEDC’s NeighborWorks® America (NWA) Home Ownership Center (HOC). The HOC was established in 1998 to assist the greater Ventura community in purchasing and retaining homes, and offers a wide variety of free financial education classes, counseling, and mortgage loans. VCCDC is a non-profit lending subsidiary of CEDC. NHSA (www.nhsaonline.org) is the leading provider of nonprofit secondary market capital to the community development field. The organization has developed innovative loan products and services in support of affordable single-family and multifamily residential properties. For more than 30 years, NHSA has been a resource to the NeighborWorks® network of more than 240 local nonprofits, including CEDC, in partnership with NeighborWorks® America.Ms. Garcia joins the NHSA’s 15-member board of directors. NHSA’s board members represent diverse organizations across the United States. In addition to her role on the board of directors at NHSA, Ms. Garcia will serve on both NHSA’s loan and capital development committees.Ms. Garcia is the first HOC director of an NWA affiliate to be appointed to NHSA.
