Voyd Ray Milam Voyd Ray Milam passed away in his sleep at home February 26, 2007. He lived in Mokelumne Hill in Northern California for the last 19 years.He was born in Twitty, Texas on November 11, 1928 to Ray and Agnes Milam. They moved to Santa Paula when Voyd was a young child. He went to school in Santa Paula, and graduated from Santa Paula High School in 1946, where he played football.After graduating, he went into the Navy. He enlisted in the Army in the early 1950s, and was honorably discharged in 1953 and married Virginia Barton (Santa Paula). They were married for 53 years, and have four children.Through the years Voyd was in law enforcement, and worked in the automotive parts business. He was district sales manager with Borg-Warner for 25 years before retiring.After moving to Northern California with Virginia to their “piece of heaven,” he enjoyed working around their property and home, spending time with Virginia traveling in the Sierra Nevadas, finding little out-of-the-way places. He enjoyed his children and grandchildren, and was looking forward to the arrival of his first great-granddaughter in July of this year.He is survived by wife Virginia and their children - Kathy (Steve) Samples of Oak View and grandsons Adam (Melanie) Samples and Sanger Samples of Ventura, Kim (Panos) Angelos of Snohomish, Washington and grandsons Vasili Angelos and Nikko Angelos of Snohomish, Dirk Milam of Mokelumne Hill, and Guy (June) Milam of Castro Valley. He is also survived by his granddaughter, Karilyn Milam, grandsons – Karlyn Milam and Kyle Kilpatrick, brother Russell (Janette) Milam of Bakersfield, brother Richard (Linda) Milam of Utah, and cousin Roberta Wilhelm of Santa Paula.Per Voyd’s wishes there were no services.We miss you so much!Alicia (Alice) LashbrookAlice Lashbrook, our beloved sister, passed away on March 6, 2007 in Vista, California.Alice was born on February 18, 1952 to Jess and Carmen Marquez, the youngest of four. Alice lived in San Diego County for about 35 years.She leaves three beautiful children, Jacob, Favor, and Micah. They were the light of her life.Alice’s pleasures were gardening, drawing, but most of all raising her children – helping, showing each one to become caring and loving people.Alice is also survived by her brother, Ronnie, and sisters, Kathy Cano and Olga Castro and husband Rudy Castro. She also had 17 nieces and nephews who all adored her.A truly earthbound woman, with great integrity and compassion, she will truly be missed in our hearts, but never forgotten.
On March 12, 2007, our baby sister came home to Santa Paula, to be laid to rest. This was her last journey.Hazel A. FinleyHazel A. Finley, 85, of Santa Paula, passed away on Monday, March 12, 2007 in Ventura after a brief illness.Mrs. Finley was born on June 22, 1921 in Shreve, Ohio, where she grew up and went to school. She married the love of her life, and later moved to California.Mrs. Finley was a supervisor for the California Youth Authority, where she worked and retired after 15 years of service. She also worked with her husband in their family business, Valley Auto Supply.The most important thing in Hazel’s life was her family; however, she also loved meeting people everywhere she would travel. She loved being in her church, and the different groups that she joined. One of her favorite places to go was Mexico, and especially Puerto Vallarta.Mrs. Finley was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Gerald “Jerry” Finley, in 2001. She is survived by her children and family, sons Gary (wife Chris) Finley, David (wife Penny) Finley, six grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 16 at the First Presbyterian Church of Santa Paula, with Pastor Randy Working officiating.Arrangements are under the direction of Skillin-Carroll Mortuary, 738 E.
