Jill Martinez, Democratic candidate for Congress in the 24th California district, will be the speaker at the May 17 meeting of the Santa Clara Valley Democratic Club, which serves Fillmore, Piru and Santa Paula.
Jill Martinez, Democratic candidate for Congress in the 24th California district, will be the speaker at the May 17 meeting of the Santa Clara Valley Democratic Club, which serves Fillmore, Piru and Santa Paula. The meeting will be at the Harvard Café, 650 W. Harvard Blvd. at 7 p.m., preceded by a no-host dinner at 6 p.m.
Martinez, who is unopposed in the June 6 primary election, will run in November against the Republican chosen in June. She has worked over the past 13 years on housing, health care, transportation and economic development issues, and has worked on numerous local boards and agency advisory councils dealing with policy development and administrative procedures. She has served as a city civil service commissioner as well as a police chaplain, has taught professional ethics in a California State University MBA program, and has co-hosted the bilingual television program “La Voz de la Raza” for ABC’s Stockton/Sacramento affiliate.
