Fourth of July Fireworks Planning Underway

“Santa Paula Fireworks have become an annual tradition” says Ginger Gherardi, head of Santa Paula’s community sponsored fireworks committee. “We’re celebrating several important things by producing the fireworks. First of all, 4th of July fireworks are a symbol of our country’s great ideals. Additionally, Santa Paula was founded by pioneers with a ‘can do’ spirit. Practical considerations necessitate that private rather than city funds are used for this, and Santa Paulans roll up their sleeves in a time honored tradition to contribute for the fireworks.

Al Guilin, committee co-chair concurs, “For the last several years our community has come together and gathered the necessary funds to insure that a proper celebration was held in Santa Paula.  We raised the needed $15,000 last year and were able to provide a spectacular Fireworks Show for all to enjoy”. This, along with what the fireworks represent, is a great teaching moment for our kids”.

“We are once again asking for Santa Paulans help to provide fireworks this year. We have managed to keep the $15,000 cost the same as last year. We need to pay 1/2 of the cost by March 2014 with the remainder due on July 4th” says Gherardi.  The committee believes that while the City is unable to pay for the fireworks, they will continue to provide the police, fire department and logistical support needed for the celebration.

Guilin says “we know that it’s early in the year, but close your eyes and imagine a beautiful warm summer evening with the last rays of sun framing South Mountain’s SP in a pink glow. Family and friends gather for BBQ and picnics. As darkness descends, a glittering array of fantastic fireworks provides the ending to a perfect celebration”.
