Marian Rybarczyk

Marian Georgette Rybarczyk, 88, passed away on September 30, 2011 in her home in Santa Paula, CA after battling cancer for the past year.

She was born in Santa Barbara, CA on July 31, 1923 to Max and Jennie Gattle, who owned a small downtown grocery store. She grew up there and graduated from Santa Barbara High School.

In 1943 she married William Rybarczyk in Chicago. She was a military wife for several years and lived in Texas before moving to Santa Barbara. Their family lived the earlier years there before settling in Santa Paula.

Marian was an extrovert and described as a “character” by her family and friends. These traits enabled her to be a successful real estate agent who received recognition as a member of the Staben Realty “Million Dollar Club” for 3 consecutive years.

She was known as a wonderful cook and for three years co-owned the Galley Restaurant in Santa Paula. She was also noted for her piecrust filled with apples. Her husband, Bill, managed McMahan’s Furniture Store in Santa Paula.

Marian loved her friends deeply and her home was always open to friends for a cup of coffee and dessert. Mealtimes usually included a guest or two.

Marian was involved in the community as a Girl Scout leader, volunteer at Community Assistance of Santa Paula (C.A.S.P.), PTA member and school aide. She was also proud to belong to the Native Daughters of the Golden West.

Marian loved the ocean and was an avid fisherwoman. She and Bill belonged to an RV club that spent many weekends camping by the ocean and at her mountain cabins. She also loved to dance and play poker and cribbage.

Marian is survived by her children, Lynn Rybarczyk of San Diego and Robin Rybarczyk of Corvallis, Oregon. She has four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Her canine companion, Beau, was in constant attendance for the past 10 years.

She is further survived by niece and caregiver Chris Frenzel, many nieces and nephews, cousin Tom Gattle of Naples, Florida, and many treasured friends. Her son Lynn and her many friends took care of her during her sicknesses.

She is predeceased by her husband, William Rybarczyk, in 2000, and her son Richard in 1978.

Marian’s children would like to gratefully thank all of her friends and neighbors who helped so much during this past year, and Dr. Gary Deutsch, Dr. Dick Yamamoto and Livingston Hospice for the loving and dedicated care. Such fantastic people!

A memorial service to celebrate Marian’s life will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2011 at 10 a.m. at Hillview Estates Community Center, 975 W. Telegraph Rd., Santa Paula. A reception/potluck will follow. For potluck information, please call Judy before noon or after 5 p.m. at 805-525-3411.
