Jesse Lloyd Griffin

Lloyd Griffin, 73, of Santa Paula, passed away on Saturday, June 26, 2010 after a brief illness. Lloyd was born June 18, 1937 in Ventura, CA to Walter E. Griffin and Wilma May (Max) Morris Griffin.

Lloyd attended school in the Santa Paula system, and graduated from Santa Paula High School in 1956. As a young child, Lloyd contracted polio and all of the other childhood illnesses; he even had an appendicitis attack and was rushed to Oxnard to the old Lying Inn Hospital, long before the Santa Paula Hospital came into being.

Lloyd worked in the citrus packing houses in Santa Paula for many years, where he helped in the packing of fruit for sending out to the market. It was during this time that Lloyd showed he had the patience of Job when he took up tooling leather at Don and Lee Newell’s Hobby Shop. He tooled belts, purses and photo albums for the family and friends.

Lloyd loved the out of doors and looked forward to traveling with family members, especially the trips to Hawaii. He was looking forward to a trip that was planned with this family to Alaska at the end of July. I’ll be looking for you at every turn, my brother.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and several cousins. He is survived by his brother, E. Floyd Griffin of Santa Paula, and numerous cousins.

Services will be at Skillin Carroll Mortuary on Wednesday, July 7, with a visitation at 9 a.m. followed by a service at 10 a.m. with the Rev. William Downey officiating. This will be followed by a Masonic service at graveside at Pierce Brothers Santa Paula Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Skillin Carroll Mortuary, 738 E. Santa Paula St., Santa Paula.

He is survived by his parents Alfredo and Cecilia Barron, grandparents Alfredo and Anita Barron, sister and brother-in-law Patty and George Zaragoza, brother Freddy Barron, his three beautiful children, Alexis, and twins - Isaac and Ivan, to include numerous cousins, uncles, and aunts.

His hobbies were going to the movies, camping, family gatherings and being loyally dedicated to his sport teams. He kept us well entertained with his great sense of humor and quick-wittedness. When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure. Meanwhile the angels are always near to those who are grieving, to whisper to them that their loved ones are safe in the hands of God. Although it’s difficult today to see beyond the sorrow, may looking back in memory help comfort you tomorrow.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 6, 2010 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Church of Angels, 600 E. Pleasant St., Santa Paula, followed by the recitation of the rosary at 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 427 N. Oak St., Santa Paula. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at 10 a.m., also at Our Lady Of Guadalupe Church, with Father Charles Lueras, CRIC officiating.
