Two people received minor injuries when their vehicles collided head-on Monday afternoon, an accident that might be attributable to mechanical failure. According to Santa Paula Police Lieutenant Troyce Reynolds, the accident occurred May 3 at about 4:10 p.m. on East Santa Paula Street.
Anthony Caezza, a 21-year-old resident of Santa Paula, was driving a silver 1995 Mercury eastbound on Santa Paula Street near the intersection of Olive Street. At the same time Patti Bachewiig, 55, also a Santa Paula resident, was driving a white 2005 Toyota Highlander westbound on East Santa Paula Street.
“Possibly due to mechanical issues,” Reynolds said Caezza found he could not control his vehicle and it crossed into the westbound lane. When Caezza’s Mercury crossed over into the oncoming lane it struck Bachewiig’s Highlander head-on.
Reynolds said Caezza suffered a minor laceration to his arm and was treated at the scene by Santa Paula Fire EMTs and AMR paramedics. “Bachewiig complained of pain in the neck and had a small laceration on her mouth from the airbag deploying,” and Reynolds said she was transported to Santa Paula Hospital for treatment.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
