District Attorney Gregory D. Totten recently announced that Chad Aaron Ward (DOB 5/1/75), a former resident of Ventura, pleaded guilty to five counts of felony grand theft and admitted to taking more than $50,000. This matter was investigated by the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office Bureau of Investigation.Ward, through his company Ward Note Leads, used the Internet to sell lists of people supposedly willing to sell real estate “notes.” The lists of prospective note sellers were worthless, but the victims were directed to a shill of Ward Note Leads who falsely claimed to be making a lot of money with the information provided by Ward. Twenty-four victims lost approximately $72,000 to Ward.
On February 9, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. in courtroom 12, Ward will be sentenced by the Honorable Edward Brodie. It is expected that Ward will be sentenced to 28 months in state prison. This sentence will be served after he completes a five-year federal prison sentence he is currently serving. Ward will also be ordered to pay restitution to the victims.
