The stirring of harp strings will fill the air as the historic Universalist Unitarian Church of Santa Paula presents the “Tree of Strings World Harp Concert” on Saturday, September 10 at 7:30 p.m. The event is part of the “Santa Paula Concert Series”, which has been offered by the church, located at 740 East Main Street, Santa Paula, for the past two years. The Richardsonian Romanesque church building, with its large Palladian stained glass windows, is a registered Ventura County Landmark and a point of interest to those visiting Santa Paula. Many concertgoers say that they have always wanted a look inside the building, and with good reason. The beauty of the redwood paneled sanctuary coupled with its excellent acoustic properties has rendered it a very suitable venue in which to experience the variety of cultural music events presented to the public as a fundraiser for the Stained Glass Window Restoration project of the Universalist Unitarian Church Building and Restoration Fund.September’s event features performances by three harpists who specialize in various genres of harp music: internationally acclaimed harpist and recording artist Laurie Rasmussen, performing classical music on pedal harp as well as traditional Irish music on her Celtic harp; popular San Diego based Paraguayan harpist, teacher and recording artist Miguel Lopez; and Grupo Sol y Mar from Santa Barbara, featuring local native and recording artist John Robles, performing the vivacious traditional harp music of Veracruz, Mexico. A reception will follow the performance, with refreshments and an opportunity to meet the artists and to obtain CDs.
Tickets are available for a donation of $12 in advance or $15 at the door, and additional information may be obtained b calling 805-320-0991. Beginning August 23, tickets may also be purchased at John Nichols Gallery, 916 E. Main Street in Santa Paula. The Gallery may be reached by phone at 525-7804.
