A documented gang member considered armed and dangerous with outstanding warrants and driving a stolen car led Santa Paula Police on a chase Thursday before he resisted arrest and injured a SPPD K9.

According to Sgt. Scott Varner, the August 27 incident occurred at about 6 a.m. with the report of a stolen vehicle and Glen Dominguez, 35 of Santa Paula, was named as the suspect.

Dominguez, noted Varner, “was found to have two felony warrants for his arrest, was considered armed and dangerous, and is a documented Santa Paula gang member.”

Officers received information that Dominguez was in possession of and driving the stolen vehicle in the city, but it wasn’t until about 5:15 p.m. that police found the vehicle — with Dominguez at the wheel — in the 300 block of North 12th Street.

“Gang Unit Detectives attempted to conduct a traffic enforcement stop on the vehicle in the area of 12th and Saticoy streets,” but Dominguez failed to stop and a pursuit ensued.

The chase lasted approximately 15 minutes as Dominguez drove approximately 3 miles within the city.

Dominguez said Varner, “eventually pulled in the parking lot of 4 Guys Liquor,” located on the corner of 12th and East Main streets “where officers were able to block his path from fleeing.”

When Dominguez exited his vehicle   and  he became combative with officers, resisting arrest, but “With the use of a police K9, Dominguez was subsequently taking into custody without further incident.”

Dominguez was arrested in connection with the two warrants, suspicion of felony evading, resisting a police officer and harming a police dog. He was taken to Santa Paula Hospital for treatment of injuries suffered in the struggle and was booked into Ventura County Jail after being medically cleared.

Varner said police have had “numerous contacts” with Dominguez who “was resisting arrest enough,” to inflict unknown injuries on the K9, although “The K9 had to receive some kind of injury for Dominguez to receive that charge” of harming the animal.
