The Ventura County Garden Club, originally organized in 1924 with Mrs. F. H. Osgood as its charter president, will begin its 86th year on Wednesday, September 1.
The first meeting will be held at 1 p.m. at 117 N. 7th St., Santa Paula.
The purpose of the club is to promote interest in the subject of gardening, and to foster community beautification through district projects. The club contains members from Ojai, Santa Paula, Ventura, Camarillo, Oxnard and Fillmore, so the beautification projects rotate through the different communities each year.
Antonio Sanchez, owner of Napolito Nursery in Ventura, will be on the program for this first meeting. He will speak on fall planting of California native plants.
The club extends a warm welcome and encourages all persons interested in home flower and vegetable gardening, houseplant care, excursions to a variety of garden venues, enthusiastic speakers, and workshops on many plant-related subjects.
Meetings are held monthly, September through June, with several tours planned each year. During “at home” meetings members enjoy not only fascinating programs, but a lively and delicious old-fashioned tea party.
