Members of the Santa Paula Police Department’s Crime Suppression Team made an arrest last week when a subject they were visiting took off - and they found a drug scale and narcotics in the area where he fled.
According to SPPD Lt. Carlos Juarez, the incident occurred Friday, July 23 at about 9:34 p.m. when Senior Officer Hector Ramirez and Officer Matt Alonzo visited a residence in the 800 block of Virginia Terrace for a routine probation search.
The pair was looking for Joseph Arellano, 21, whom Juarez said is “on active probation with gang terms... “
When the officers arrived at the residence they observed Arellano outside talking to a female.
When the officers announced themselves Juarez said Arellano “ran away... they told him to stop but he continued running,” and the officers gave chase.
The officers also ordered a perimeter be set up in the area and located Arellano near 7th Street.
“The officers took Arellano into custody,” without further incident “and while conducting a search of the area,” officers located “a scale and a bag of methamphetamine” in proximity to where Arellano had been stopped.
Also found was a drill bit and less than an ounce of marijuana.
The drill bit said Juarez, is an etching tool, “A vandalism tool used to scratch glass” with graffiti.
Arellano was arrested on suspicion of various charges including possession of methamphetamine, possession of a vandalism tool and resisting arrest.
