Katherine Elliott “Casey” Dickenson
After more than a decade of struggle with Alzheimer’s disease, our beloved Casey passed away on July 25, 2010. A resident of Santa Paula for 53 years, Casey was born in Oakland, CA on August 4, 1933. She was raised in Piedmont and was the daughter of Cornelia and Wallace Elliott.
Casey will be missed by her husband of 55 years, John M. (Jack) Dickenson, daughter Nancy and son-in-law Richard Shoup of San Jose, son John IV of Ventura, and grandchildren Alexander Shoup, James Maxwell and Amanda Dickenson. She is also survived by brothers Stuart B. Elliott and wife Lyn of Altadena and Carter G. Elliott and wife Linda of San Jose; sisters-in-law Lois Dixon of Provo, UT and Gwyn Kaiser and husband David of Santa Paula. Ten nieces and nephews also survive, along with a special “daughter” Mary F. Humphries, of Accra, Ghana, who, as a foreign exchange student from South Africa, joined the Dickenson family in 1972. Casey’s life was also blessed with many wonderful friends.
Casey dedicated a great deal of her life to helping others. She was actively involved in Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts and 4-H when her children were young. She was a member of the Santa Paula Hospital Auxiliary, the Assistance League of Ventura County and its Las Patronas Auxiliary. Casey’s favorite pastimes were playing golf, riding horses, dancing and traveling.
The family is grateful for the loving care of Alice Molina and Fina Arrellano throughout Casey’s illness and, for the past four years, the dedicated caregivers at Victoria Care Center.
A service for Casey will be held on Thursday, July 29, at 10: 30 a.m., at Santa Paula Cemetery. A memorial reception will follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Casey’s memory to Santa Paula Art Museum (http://www.santapaulaartmuseum.org/home.html), Las Patronas Auxiliary (http://www.assistanceleagueventuracounty.org/auxiliaries.html), the Alzheimer’s Association (http://www.alz.org) or the charity of your choice.
Eduardo Morales-Castillo
Eduardo Morales-Castillo, age 60, passed away suddenly on Monday, July 19, 2010 in Simi Valley, CA. He was born on October 13, 1949 in Mexico City, but became a proud U.S. citizen in 1997.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Francisca, as well as his son Eduardo Morales (wife Ingrid) and grandchildren Alejandra, Karie and John Nathan; and daughter, Elizabeth Morales-Zuber and grandchild Evan Nicholas. He loved being with and spoiling his grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his father, Domingo Morales, and mother, Dolores Morales-Castillo. He was the second to the oldest from a family of six brothers and sisters, most still residing in Mexico City; however the first passed on to eternal life.
He was a Santa Paula resident since 1989, and made many great friends in this city. He was very proud to have been able to support his family and was happy to have been able to give them a life, which he would not have been able to do in his native country. He worked as a maintenance tech at Pentair Water Pool and Spa in Moorpark, CA, and had been there for 15 years.
He made great friends wherever he went due to his charismatic personality and his willingness to help all of those in need. He was a smart man who loved to keep busy, either working on his car, mowing the lawn, or helping put grandchildren’s toys back together, and even worked until the day of his death.
You would not miss him on the weekends watching sports, and mostly his passion soccer. He was extremely happy to have enjoyed this past World Cup. He was a soccer player since the age of 6, and soccer became his life. His favorite soccer team was ‘Las Chivas Rayadas del Guadalajara’ from the Mexican League, and he proudly wore their red, white and blue jersey. He played in a veteran’s league in Santa Paula up until the age of 47, and at one point his team became champions of their division.
He loved to dance to classic ‘cumbias’ and would always show off his dance moves at family gatherings. He was great at telling jokes and easily made conversation on any topic you could imagine.
Our Father will live in each and every single one of his loved ones as well as the recipients of his donated organs; may he live in them and in us for a very long time. He will be deeply missed.
“Don’t weep at my grave; for I am not there, I’ve a date with a butterfly to dance in the air. I’ll be singing in the sunshine, wild and free, playing tag with the wind while I am waiting for thee.”
A visitation was scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 27 at Skillin-Carroll Mortuary, 738 E. Santa Paula St., Santa Paula, with rosary at 7 p.m. A funeral Mass will take place at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, July 28 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 427 N. Oak Ave., Santa Paula.
