Unification

To the Editor:

The Santa Paula City Council knows that good schools are essential for our kids and for the future of our community. They also recognize that unification of the Santa Paula Elementary School District with the Santa Paula Union High School District may provide the best opportunity to improve the quality of Santa Paula’s schools and put our Kids First!

Because of the Council leadership, unification will be the subject of a public hearing on Wednesday, March 17th at the Community Center at 6 p.m. The meeting will be held by the County Committee for School District Organization and will give you the opportunity to ask questions, provide input and get unbiased information on unification from the experts.

Unification is important to the future of all Santa Paula residents, whether or not you have children in school. And, families with kids would welcome having one school-year calendar with the same holidays and vacations for all.

We hope the County Committee will proceed with the review of our schools and allow the voters to decide if the two districts should be unified. Your input is important.

If you can’t attend the meeting, you can send comments to: Ken Prosser, Secretary, Ventura County Committee on School District Organization, 5189 Verdugo Way, Camarillo, CA 93012. Let’s put our Kids First!

Support appreciated

To the Editor:

On behalf of the City of Santa Paula’s Senior Center, we would like to thank the Santa Paula Mexican American Chamber of Commerce for their recent generous donation to our Senior Nutrition Program. This will allow us to serve more seniors than would otherwise be possible, as donations help defray the cost of providing meals. Your support is greatly appreciated.

Celebrating 100 years

To the Editor:

Blanchard Community Library and the Friends of the Library extend many, many thanks to all who attended the March 6th opening reception for the 100th birthday of this important community asset. And we can’t extend enough gratitude to all the people who worked on making the celebration such a success. There are too many names to include here, but please know that you have our most sincere thanks.

We are very fortunate to have such a good library. Out-of-towners tell us so whenever they visit. We are pleased that our local students have learned that, too. Just stop in at the California Oil Museum to look at the excellent exhibit they have prepared on the history of the library and the programs it offers. You will be impressed.

Our thanks to all of our loyal supporters.

Are Texans smarter than Californians?

To the Editor:

Our state of California is destitute/broke and our state continues to provide costly sanctuary for the illegal. Providing housing, welfare, medical services, food programs, incarceration of Mexico’s criminals, and schooling for their children. California schools are so broke, and are letting our teachers go.

Today there are more people facing violent deaths in Mexico every year than there are in Iraq and Afghanistan put together. I see on TV the big travel discounts being advertised to entice people to visit Mexico. Texas is warning all their college students to completely stay out of Mexico for spring break again because of violent crime along the border. Texas is not broke.

Who is smarter?
