Joshua was born in Memphis and home schooled in Brighton, Tennessee, graduating as an Eagle Scout and National Merit Scholarship finalist. He received his B.A. in Liberal Arts from Thomas Aquinas College, and then was commissioned as an ensign in the U.S. Navy at the Officer Candidate School, Pensacola Naval Air Station, Florida.Joshua and Bernadette honeymooned in Puerto Rico, and now make their home in Norfolk, Virginia, where Joshua is stationed as a surface warfare officer on board the U.S.S. Iwo Jima.

Marie-Bernadette Rose Coughlin of Santa Paula and Ensign Joshua Michael Bergen, U.S. Navy, were joined in Holy Matrimony on August 10 at St. Sebastian’s Catholic Church, Santa Paula, with Rev. Pasquale Vuoso, C.R.I.C., officiating. The bride is the daughter of Glen and Maureen Coughlin of Santa Paula. Joshua is the son of Kay and Leonard Bergen of Brighton, Tennessee.
The bride’s gown was covered in lace with a simple veil and full train. Her bouquet of orchids and roses was made by her bridesmaid, Mrs. Rose Ferrier Froula.Her sister, Mrs. Mary-Sarah Shields, was matron of honor. Also as attendants were Mary Matthie of St. Catherine’s, Ontario, Therese Grimm of Ojai, Mrs. Amy Ringle Mellein of Ojai, Rebecca Daly of Santa Paula, Alexandra Currie of Orange County, and Bridget Coughlin, sister of the bride. The flower girls were Gwynith Hayden of Ojai and Elizabeth Langley of Houston, Texas, cousin of the bride.Daniel Shields of Ojai was the best man. Ushers were Jonathan Bergen, brother of the groom, Benedict and Patrick Coughlin, brothers of the bride, Henry Teichert of Ojai, Connell Tanner of Ottawa, Ontario, Justin Froula of Porterville, CA, and Sean DeNicola of Portland, Oregon. Charles Coughlin, Bernadette’s brother, and Michael Shaneyfelt of Santa Paula were ring bearers. Serving at the altar were Dominic, Gerard and Francis Coughlin, brothers of the bride.Bernadette was born in Quebec City, Canada and raised in Santa Paula, receiving her schooling at home. She earned her B.A. in Liberal Arts from Thomas Aquinas College in Santa Paula.
