SP Hospital holding 1st Baby Fair Saturday

To show off its facilities for those expecting a little bundle from heaven - or specifically where babies really come from - Santa Paula Hospital is holding a Baby Fair on Saturday, just in time for Mother’s Day, according to a hospital official.

PW Environmental hosted the Chamber of Commerce sponsored event at The Grove restaurant at Glen Tavern Inn.Santa Paula Hospital’s 1st Baby Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the hospital campus, 825 N. 10th St.Free shuttle service to the “Hospital on the Hill” will be available from Blanchard Community Library, 119 N. 8th St.With more and more babies being born at the hospital, the purpose of the Baby Fair is to raise even more “public awareness” of the recently reopened hospital’s pediatric and maternity services said Borelli.“We’ve invited about 24 commercial vendors and public service providers” who will showcase their products and highlight available services offered to mothers and children.
Such service providers who will be at the Baby Fair include Neighborhood for Learning and Head Start among others.Borelli said that the event will offer activities for the whole family including musical entertainment and a Barnes & Noble Reading Hour starting at 10 a.m.Face painting and Cookie the Clown will further add to the festivities.Tours of the Maternity Unit - which has been expanded to accommodate more and more new mothers and their babies - will also be offered throughout the fair as well as physician lectures on helping baby to sleep and high-risk obstetrics.Borelli said the hospital has received strong support from major sponsors Silagie Development & Management Co., Comstock Homes, City of Santa Paula, Garden Market, Logsdon’s, Familia Diaz, Limoneira, Vons, Longs Drug Store, Pepsi and Babies R Us among others.One GMSP! audience question centered on a county newspaper report last year that the hospital has not been garnering the baby business: “We’ve been averaging about 25 to 30 deliveries a month,” and the total now surpasses several hundred births said Borelli.And, Borelli noted, “We’ve really been pleased with the response of physicians” who have been delivering more and more babies at Santa Paula Hospital.
