But SPPD detectives have requested a bail increase to $250,000 “due to the seriousness of the crime,” noted Senior Officer Smith. The request, he added, is pending approval by a magistrate.Lt. Juarez said that in such cases a bail increase is not uncommon. “Normally we do that for the safety of everyone involved, victims and witnesses,” he noted. “It does not appear,” Lt. Juarez added, that Yzaguirre has a prior criminal record.“The case was filed this morning with the District Attorney’s Office, and Yzaguirre is being charged with five counts of committing lewd and lascivious acts on a child,” said Sgt. Cordero on Thursday. “We’re looking into the fact that there might be other victims, there’s always that possibility,” and Sgt. Cordero asked that anyone with information on Yzaguirre or the case contact him or Detective David Lusk at 525-4474.

Basilico Yzaguirre of Santa Paula was arrested Wednesday, March 21 at about 4 p.m. for suspicion of lewd and lascivious acts on a minor. The victim, who is not being identified due to her age, was 14 years old at the time of the molestations, according to Senior Officer Ryan Smith. According to SPPD Lieutenant Carlos Juarez, although it had been investigated for almost one year, the case “came together very quickly” due to the cooperation of the victim, leading to Yzaguirre’s arrest.“He met her when he was a drama coach at Santa Paula Union High School,” although Yzaguirre is no longer affiliated with the school, said Sgt. Ismael Cordero. Yzaguirre was under surveillance when he attempted to drive to Fillmore, and was arrested without incident and brought back to Santa Paula. He was transported to Ventura County Jail, with bail initially set at $30,000, pending a court appearance.
