Cardinal varsity wins three in a row

The Cardinal varsity boys have won the last three baseball games, two of them league contests. They started out this week beating Oaks Christian 11-5. Santa Paula took an early lead, going ahead 2-1 in the first inning. By the end of the third that lead was stretched to 4-1. At the end of the fifth inning Oaks Christian was down by only one run. The Cardinal bats went wild in the sixth, with six runs coming in. Eddie Delgadillo started the rally with an RBI with two out.Randy Aguilera went 3-for-3 with two runs and an RBI. Toby Baca had three RBIs. Mike Cortez was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Anthony Lopez went 1-for-2 with three RBIs.Anthony Bavero started for the Cards, pitching just over four innings. Stephan Paul finished off the game, striking out three.The Cards next traveled to Santa Clara High School and shut out the Saints 4-0.Mike Cortez, Eddie Delgadillo and Anthony Lopez all had RBI singles. Rudy Gamez pitched six innings for the win, striking out three batters.
In a non-league contest the Cardinals beat Grace Brethren in extra innings 7-6.Stephan Paul won in relief. He went 2-for-2 at the plate with an RBI; an outfield assist and scored the winning run. Anthony Lopez also went 2-for-2. He brought in the winning run after being hit by a pitch in the bottom of the eighth inning. Eddie Delgadillo was 2-for-2 with an RBI.Santa Paula is now 5-8 overall and 2-1 in the Frontier League. They play Tuesday at Malibu.
