By Peggy KellySanta Paula TimesAcclaimed artist Judy Klement will show technique using dreamy pastels as the Demonstration Artist at Sunday’s Santa Paula Society of the Arts meeting. The April 10 meeting will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. in the restored warehouse portion of the historic Depot, the home of the Santa Paula Society of the Arts Depot Gallery. Also located at the Depot, located at the corner of 10th and Santa Barbara Streets, is the Society’s gift shop. The demonstration and meeting is, as always, open to anyone who would like to attend; you need not be an SPSA member. Klement, an award winning artist, will be on hand to do a demonstration of a landscape in pastel, said Virginia Gunderson of the SPSA. A SPSA member, Klement has exhibited her work widely, including in a special 2003 Ventura County Museum of History & Art exhibit highlighting women.Following a short general meeting – where the Board of Directors and Officers will be elected – Klement will demonstrate working with pastels, dry pigments that are turned into paint when mixed with oil or water. Klement’s pastels, as well as her paintings, are highly sought by collectors, as are her portraits that can be done through a sitting or by using a photograph.
“Guests and visitors are encouraged to enter a drawing, and the lucky winner will go home with a Giclee print of a previously painted piece done by” Klement, noted Gunderson. Light refreshments will be served. For more information about the Santa Paula Society of the Arts, call 525-1104. Visit the Depot Gallery (963 E.
