Cardinal boys take a big bite out of the Lions

Oaks Christian loses two to the Cards

Both the Card freshman and varsity boys’ basketball teams sent Oaks Christian home with losses Tuesday night. The Santa Paula freshmen beat the Lions 50-40 and the varsity took a 63-56 win. The Cardinal JV lost their game 64-53.Ben Kolbeck led the scoring for the frosh team with 14 points. Sergio Alamillo had nine, Kevin Rodriguz had eight, Antonio Zamudio and Dimas Vigil both hit for six points and Ramon Castillo had two.Johnny Urrutia was the high scorer for the JV with 15 points. Ernesto Guzman followed him with 14. Daniel Cardoza had nine, Julian Gonzales had six and Travis Marella had three points.Santa Paula jumped off to an early lead, going ahead 20-10 at the end of the first quarter. The Lions came bacdk to tie the game 30-30 at the half. By the end of the third quarter the Cards had again taken the lead, 47-39.
Andy Rico topped the Cardinal scoring with 20 points. He also had four rebounds, two assists and five steals. Chepe Lara hit the basket for 18 points. Lara also recorded 10 rebounds and had two assists and three steals. Angel Camarillo had 11 points, seven rebounds, one assist and three steals. Bubba Maynard added nine points for the Cards and had three rebounds, seven assists and one steal. Nene Alamillo had five points and five rebounds. Richard Hernandez had two points, two rebounds and one steal.
