LAFCO looking for alternate public member

The Ventura Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCO) is seeking individuals interested in serving in the capacity of Alternate Public Member.

The Ventura Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCO) is seeking individuals interested in serving in the capacity of Alternate Public Member. The Ventura LAFCO, an independent agency created by the State of California, oversees boundaries for cities and special districts in Ventura County. The Commission is comprised of seven voting members and four alternate members. These members include two representatives and an alternate from the Board of Supervisors, two representatives and an alternate from City Councils, two representatives and an alternate from independent Special Districts, and one Public Member and one alternate. Alternate members can attend and participate in meetings, but vote only when a regular member is absent or has a conflict of interest.The other members of LAFCO appoint the Public Member and the Alternate Public Member. Recently the current Alternate Public Member, Kenneth Hess, was appointed by LAFCO to become the Public Member effective on January 1, 2005. Thus, LAFCO is seeking to appoint a new Alternate Public Member to start a new four-year term effective January 1, 2005. Under the current rules of the Ventura LAFCO the Public Member and the Alternate Public Member may only serve in their respective positions for one four-year term.The Ventura LAFCO meets on a regular basis at 9 a.m. on the third Wednesday of each month except August and December. Special meetings are scheduled by the Commission as necessary and may occur at any time. Interested individuals must be residents of Ventura County, must be able to regularly attend LAFCO meetings, cannot be officers or employees of the County, or any city or special district in the County, and should have a general understanding of LAFCO functions and authorities. The individual who is appointed will be required to file a financial disclosure statement with the California Fair Political Practices Commission.
