The City of Santa Paula is recruiting its first class for its new Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program. The CERT system was developed from the need for a well-trained community volunteer emergency workforce. These teams will assist the City by responding during emergencies or during disaster situations. The training program provides for citizen self-sufficiency through the development of multifunctional response teams, who act to assist the community’s emergency service personnel through major disasters. The CERT members receive 18-20 hours of initial training. CERT Team Members are given additional training opportunities with continuing education programs.
Class begins July 8, 2004 and will be each Thursday evening from 7 PM to 9:30 PM at the Santa Paula Community Center. For more information, contact the Santa Paula Fire Department at 933-4254.
