Santa Clara boys overwhelm Cardinals

The Cardinal boys played host to Santa Clara on the basketball court Tuesday night. The varsity Cards came out on the short end of the stick with a 71-45 loss. The Saints took control early, ending the first quarter with a 22-2 lead. At the half Santa Clara was ahead, 40-17.This was the last home game for seniors Aaron Argueta and Alex Torres. Argueta led the team in scoring with 13 points. He also had 12 rebounds and three steals. Torres had one three-pointer, two assists and one steal. Freshman Chepe Lara had 11 points for the varsity. Andy Rico hit the net for nine points. He also had four assists, four steals and one block. Toby Baca recorded six points for the Cardinals, along with one assist and one steal.The frosh boys just barely lost, 51-46. The JV won a hard-fought contest, 43-40. The lead went back and forth, with Santa Clara ahead by one point at half time. Froylan Valdivinos scored 11 points and had seven rebounds. Nene Alamillo shot for eight points and had nine rebounds. This was the third win in-a-row for the JV team.
