Harvard-Westlake 3, Santa Paula 0The Santa Paula volleyball team traveled to Harvard-Westlake for second-round CIF Division IIIA playoffs only to be dealt a heartbreaking 3-0 loss, in 15-3, 15-10, 15-1 matches. Harvard-Westlake is both the state and CIF-SS Division IIIA second seed. The loss eliminates Santa Paula from playoffs with a 14-4 record.Despite the loss this was the first year in nearly a decade that advanced past first-round play.Sarah Kolbeck came to the game to play, and led the team with four kills and eight blocks. Defensive specialist Tania Castro also upped her play, delivering five digs and three points.
Jennifer Eastlake and Amanda Nichols both had three kills and four blocks. Eastlake, the team's setter, also served four points and put up 12 assists. Gina Morgan added three kills, eight digs and four service points. Rachael Kolbeck dropped in two kills and two blocks.Heath Jue, Debbie Kelley and Tina Casarez each had one kill.This year's volleyball team has had the help of many parents involved in fund-raising and a special treat was George Conrad announcing several games. More than 50 fans showed up at Harvard Westlake after taking the hour-long trip to cheer the Cardinals on.
