Wilson Santa Paula TimesThe Board of Trustees of the Santa Paula Union High School District held their reorganization meeting Wednesday night.Newly-elected trustee Christina Urias took her seat for the first time and re-elected incumbents Al Sandoval and Shirley Hendren were also sworn in.Outgoing board member Terry Nelson was given a plaque and gavel in appreciation for his eight years of service to the district.Superintendent William Brand made the presentation on behalf of the rest of the board. He noted that Nelson’s mother Donna also served as a board member from 1975 to 1994, when Terry was elected. “So the Nelson family has committed 27 years to the students of the Santa Paula Union High School District with dignity and loyalty to the district,” Brand said. “As he steps down from the board, I want him to know how important he has been to the success of the high school district and to thank him on behalf of the Board of Trustees for always thinking and working toward what is best for the students in the Santa Paula Union High School District.”
Nelson thanked the board members he’s served with over the years. He said he not only considers them colleagues, but friends as well.Urias thanked her family and friends for their support and thanked the voters who put her in office. “I’m going to ask God to give me the wisdom to do what’s best for the children of Santa Paula,” she added.The board selected Bob Salas to be the new Board President. Eric Barragan was named as Vice President.The board has a retreat set for January 9. Their first regular meeting of the year is set for Wednesday, January 15.
