Carl and Cleo Friddle celebrate 50th anniversary

Carl and Cleo Friddle of Santa Paula recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at the Santa Paula Community Center. The celebration included an early evening social, a BBQ dinner by the Santa Paula Rotary Crew, speeches, revelations, pictures spanning 50 years including their first “date” and “first kiss,” music, and dancing. Not to be outdone, their three children and grandchildren gave them a bang-up dinner at their favorite restaurant. There were 180 in attendance, including the couple’s children, Kathy Jones and husband David of Grover Beach, Carla Friddle of San Luis Obispo, and Charles Friddle and his wife Christine of Visalia. Their five grandchildren were also present.In addition to this celebration, the couple flew to Biloxi, Mississippi and spent their actual anniversary date of December 20, 2001. They were married in Biloxi December 20, 1951.Carl was born in Ventura, and Cleo in Oklahoma City. She accompanied her parents in 1940 from Wichita to California.Both Carl and Cleo graduated from the old Ventura Junior College in June 1951. Carl then joined the Air Force and after his discharge became a Ventura County fireman. After 33 years he retired, and still retains his membership in various State and County firefighters associations and is on the board of the Ventura County Firefighters Benefit Association. He also hunts, fishes, and travels with Elderhostel.
Cleo retired from her own bookkeeping and tax service in August 2001. She is now a touring Civil War buff with Elderhostel, Smithsonian, and History America. She was a member of local, state and national accounting associations. She has retained her membership in Soroptimist International of Fillmore.Both Carl and Cleo think Santa Paula’s scenery and weather are the best, and they have lived here for 29 years.
