Thomas Aquinas College celebrated the addition of a new men’s residence hall at its campus in Santa Paula on Thursday, January 17. The 23,900 square-foot building will provide living space for 106 men and a private suite for a resident priest.

Curry presided over ceremonies, which began with Mass in the College’s St. Bernardine Library and continued with a procession to, and blessing of, the building named after Sts. Peter and Paul.More than 200 students, faculty, friends, and College board members attended the event, which featured remarks by Bishop Curry, College President Thomas E. Dillon, and Paul E. Griffin III, president of Griffin Industries in Westlake Village. Griffin, a local real estate developer who serves on the College’s board of governors, was one of the principal benefactors for the building.
Other principal benefactors of the $3.6 million residence hall included Mr. and Mrs. James Barrett (Mr. Barrett is the founder of Chateau Montelena Winery in Calistoga), Mr. and Mrs. Mark Belnick (Mr. Belnick is Vice-President and General Counsel, Tyco Int’l in New York), Dr. and Mrs. Henry Zeiter (Dr. Zeiter is the founder of Zeiter Eye Clinic in Stockton), and three foundations: The Weingart Foundation (Los Angeles), The Greycoach Foundation (Long Lake, MN), and The Joseph B. Gould Foundation (Las Vegas).The new hall features a gated-entry courtyard with a fountain and inner balcony. Inside, the main lounge opens into a two-story beamed ceiling, four side lounges, and two fireplaces.Scott Boydstun of Ventura’s Rasmussen & Associates was the design architect, while construction was supervised by HMH Construction Co. of Ventura. Maria Paul of J.H. Interiors in Arcadia handled interior decorating.
